Newcomers & Friends of Laredo is a social group that is ready to make you feel welcome and help you get acquainted to our unique city.
The mission of our club is to provide opportunities to attend unique events and to foster friendships. We organize events and service projects for new arrivals as well as established residents. You will find Newcomers is mix of all ages, ethnicities, backgrounds, singles and couples, stay at home moms, working families, business owners, and future friends.
We hope that you will join us for one of our many events. There are weekly coffee groups, play dates, Bridge, Bunco, adventure activities, tennis club, book club, service projects, adult socials, monthly luncheons and much more.
Our History
Newcomers and Friends of Laredo was formed in 1983 by Jody Townsend, the wife of Laredo’s first City Manager. Finding it hard to meet new friends, she went about starting a New Resident’s Club. She soon found that Laredo had many newcomers that were ready and willing to join. When people who were either born in Laredo or who had lived here for years expressed an interest in joining, the club’s name was changed to Newcomers and Friends of Laredo, Inc. The club has grown steadily since that time and many lifelong friendships have been formed.

Christine Hudson
Newsletter Coordinator
Christine is originally from the DC metro area and went to school for marketing at Virginia Commonwealth University. She works remotely in marketing for a large tech company and has built a career in different tech companies over the past 15 years.
Delia Solis
Corresponding Secretary
Delia has been a resident of Laredo all of her life. She is currently retired after a career in banking for 24 years and 21 years as an educator. She is a graduate from TAMIU with a degree in Mathematics, Education and Masters of Science in Education.
